Using the Big Five to Recreate Sims 2 Sims in The Sims 4

At a certain point, it occurred to me that EA used the Big Five to design their Sims in The Sims 2. I did crack the code on this, which is fully described in my post on a Sims bulletin board at Tapatalk, and I have since then created an app into which anyone can enter any Sim’s traits and find out how to set them in The Sims 4. This is how I created a new Pleasantview in The Sims 4.

I correlated each of the five traits with one of the Big Five descriptions, and from there, it was just math to convert them to the Big Five, and then, MBTI types. Once I converted them, I simply picked traits in The Sims 4 that match the corresponding MBTI types. (I also subdivided the ISTJ types into Assertive (Calm) and Turbulent (Limbic) subgroups.)

How could I make this any easier? By showing which Sims get which traits by neighborhood! I did this with a spreadsheet and made quick work of all the neighborhoods in The Sims 2. It took a few hours, but it was not boring work.

Before I post the results, I did want to point out some interesting things that came up in my sorting:

1. The only Sims who come up as INTP in any of the neighborhoods are the dead Sims with no character data, like Bella Goth in Pleasantview and Darleen Dreamer.
2. Although the Sims are fairly well distributed by most types, I tend to play Sims that share my personality type or similar types the most. I suspect this happens with a lot of Simmers.
3. There are entirely too many INFJs and ENTJs in the game. These are rare types and there should not be more of these than types like ESTP or even ENTP, but there are. One in two hundred males is an INFJ in real life. In The Sims 2, it is more like one in twenty. And don’t even get me started on the INFPs – I honestly believe about a third of the Sims have this type.
4. Considering how many real humans are ISTJs, they are quite underrepresented in The Sims 2, and this is a type I would guess actually does play the Sims quite a bit, but I could be wrong.
5. Free-time Hobbies matter. Almost all of the ESTJs were either Music or Gaming Sims, although real ESTJs are also very into Sports. In TS2, almost all of the Sports Sims were ENTJs. The topic of sports has come up in discussion on ENTJ boards in the past, and few of us are into them beyond any questionable networking value they have. ENTJs tend to prefer Fitness, Science, or Music. I don’t even know why they matched that hobby up with ENTJ traits. As for the other types, I sometimes used Preferred Hobbies as the deciding factor when the personality traits were ambiguous.

Although Gavin Newson comes up as ISTP from his stats, I gave him ISFP traits based on his preferred Nature Hobby.

ENFJs are energized when they are around friends.

I found ONE Sim with this personality type among all of them. ONE. ENFJs are not abundant, but they are not super-rare.

Please turn some of the abundant INFJ characters into ENFJs, starting with that Romeo named Daniel Pleasant. ENFJs are everywhere in real life; INFJs are not. The Sims 2 really messed up on this.

ENTJs differ from other Fortune Sims in that being promoted and reaching the top of the career is the goal, not purchasing more and more stuff. Power trumps things. MUSE, PROGRAMMER, or BODYBUILDER aspirations are acceptable as long as you can stay focused on making your Sim rise in his or her career.

Workaholic Travis Scott is very focused on his career in computers and lives like a monk. He is the very embodiment of a typical 20-something ENTJ.

This is the massive list of ENTJs from The Sims 2. We only constitute about 1.7% of the population, so please make some of these into other types of Fortune Sims. You have my full blessing as an ENTJ. And for the love of God, please don’t make them Bros.

I would ditch all of them except for Tiave Tricou and Ellen Frost, if I had my druthers.

If you’ve ever played the Jang family in San Myshuno, then you are aware of Anaya’s rather unique taste in decor for her art studio.

So many unique, special snowflakes! And they’re all basically the same Sim! Pretty much every Romance Townie in TS2 is an ENFP (*cough cough* Goopy) – in fact, pretty much all the Romance Sims are. Although ENFPs do not shy away from romance in real life, they are far more motivated by their creative urges. I would make all but the musical ones have the Painter Muse Aspiration, and assign the Bestseller Muse Aspiration to the others. It’s a safe bet in this game that if you aren’t sure who or what the Sim is, then it’s an ENFP. EA knows who plays this game the most of any of the types. Remember what I said earlier about playing the Sims most like myself.

Veronaville and Strangetown – The Interviews

So this project was a little different for a few reasons. All the teens in both neighborhoods quickly disappeared from their homes. They were whisked off to a mysterious university that no one has ever heard of before. Also, rumor has it, that some of the Sims might be of a different proclivity, but that’s just a rumor. There are many rumors. This author was able to procure an interview with all the movers and shakers in both towns, namely the college students who will be most pivotal to the town story.

In order to change the nature of these two belligerent neighborhoods, it was important to separate the teens from their parents immediately. Look at Uni as an exclusive boarding school. Each pupil was chosen for each particular college according to his or her special talent. In the aforementioned photo, David Ottomas, Tybault Capp, Ripp Grunt, Johnny Smith, Ophelia Nigmos and Romeo Monty were sent to the Dreamer School of the Arts for their special abilities in Arts and Crafts or Music. This was not a bad gamble, as Johnny has already received a plaque for maximizing his music enthusiasm and Ripp is well on his way to a Badge in Pottery. Enough about them, more about the Dreamer School later…

Let’s talk about the Greek House.

In case you do not know Simlish, those letters spell Cham Annya Hoh.

Sleekoduck: Guy, let’s start with you. There has been some talk about your pranks around the house, especially being the only guy around.
Guy: All vicious rumors, of course.
Sleekoduck: Marla marched to the Greek Council in the middle of the night and requested a second letter for the house.
Guy: Those letters just appeared there, I swear. I only picked up the Cham letter.
Sleekoduck: And the bird?
Guy: Okay, maybe that was me. But that coach was bothering Heather while she was trying to write her term paper. Now we can remember her every time we rehearse a speech. Hehehe.
Sleekoduck: You have made a lot of Sims happy by starting a Greek house on campus.
Guy: Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without some help from my grandfather, though. He really loved his days in Oresha Hoh Var when he was young.
Sleekoduck: (nodding) So the burning question on everyone’s mind is, there is some mysterious experiment going on with Sims with no preset gender preference. What are you like as a gay Sim?
Guy: It makes no difference to me. I just want to make lots of friends.

Sleekoduck: Marla, how do you like being in a coed fraternity?
Marla: It’s okay, I guess. There’s a lot of talking to people involved, you know.
Sleekoduck: Yeah, that is part of the package.
Marla: They told me to put my Robot Station away where no one could see it.
Sleekoduck: You wanted to build robots in a Greek House?
Marla: (chuckling) Yeah, it’s the whole thing about… you know, the universe and… they don’t get it… oh, I don’t think you do, either. I have to be authentic to myself. I love science. I’m studying physics. There are so many fascinating things out there. I’d love to work in the Science Center and build something like a rocket… or maybe the Medical Center and make artificial limbs… maybe I should study biology instead… what do you think?
Sleekoduck: That’s something you need to figure out. If you wake  up one morning and decide to change your major, I’m sure The Goddess will make it happen, as long as it’s before your Senior Year.
Marla: I always knew there was something out there. Is it kind of like that song on the College Rock channel, the one about –?
Sleekoduck: It’s more like “One of Us” by Joan Osborne, as far as you’re concerned.

Marla: That’s deep.
Sleekoduck: Yeah.
Marla: (lost in a daydream)

Marla: Well, Heather’s a beautiful girl, she’s a really beautiful girl, very, very beautiful, but I haven’t had any desire to flirt with her or anything yet.

Heather: Come on, look at her. she looks like she stepped off Little House on the Prairie. She reminds me of that freak over at Fort Buzz… what’s his name? Pixie Summerdream or something?
Guy: It’s Puck and I think he’s rushing this semester.
Heather: Have we completely dropped all standards?
Sleekoduck: Now EVERYONE wants to know what’s going on with you and the gay thing.
Heather: First of all, I prayed very hard and The Goddess said that Romance Sims could be bisexual, not gay.

Sleekoduck: That’s debatable, but whatever you say.

Marla: Heather, you’re a really mean Sim. But you’re so beautiful. Vada!

I’ve been working on this theory about how that works…

It Can Always Get Worse: Poor Puck

Sleekoduck: When your mother dropped you off at Fort Buzz, was this what you were hoping for in your collegiate experience?
Puck: It’s not so bad. I really like working on the vehicles in the hangar. I just wish my friends would call more. I keep calling them to remind them I’m still alive, but they never bother keeping in touch.
Sleekoduck: What was that incident about the fire in the bushes your first day?
Puck: Some stupid bitch was taking a dump in the bushes by the ditch and she got struck by lightning, I think. Honestly, I wasn’t paying attention… I was kind of spacing out while I was working on an old vehicle when it happened.

Sleekoduck: Both of you seem a bit ill-suited to be Popularity or Romance Sims. Do you think either of you might be undergoing Aspiration changes in a few semesters?

Ginger: Maybe. I’ve always been attracted to Sims who wear glasses and makeup, and there are a lot more female Sims who fit that description than male Sims. It also kind of explains why I was in foster care, doesn’t it? Maybe I was a runaway.

Sleekoduck: Interesting. Do you find Juliette attractive, prancing around the dorm in her underpants?

Romeo and Tybault: We’re just about best friends now. We’ve been playing a lot of chess together since we studied up on Anger Management.
Romeo: Introduce me to that Heather chick from your fraternity. I think she wants my pepperoni. I’ll play chess with her and she’ll be putty in my hands. You can make friends with anyone playing chess. My grandfather taught me that. I even won a card at Games of Glory for my chess skills.
